A generalised description of the spine is: in a healthy spine, the intervertebral discs intercept and cushion jolts and vibrations, while the vertebrae provide the back with adequate support. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The joints in the spine allow the components to fit together precisely, while the ligaments ensure that they do not dislocate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The nerves, more specifically the nervous system, warn of overload or other malfunctions, while the muscles allow the whole to move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The spine supports and carries the upper part of the body, which means it is always under strain. When sitting, the muscles and ligaments relax, which increases the load and pressure on the intervertebral discs. Incorrect posture increases the load even more. Muscles and ligaments become increasingly loose due to more and more sedentary work and longer periods of sitting. This increases the strain on other parts of the spine, which take the load of the inactive parts, leading to injuries.
